CCB did not interrogate Saraki on asset declaration before filing charges – Witness

saraki221 detective of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Michael Wetkas on Thursday disclosed that the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) did not interrogate Senate President Bukola Saraki before filng charges of false declaration of assets against him.
Wetkas, gave the revelation while being cross-examined by one of the counsels to Saraki, Paul Usoro (SAN).
“At the time the larger team of the commission investigated the defendant, they interrogated him but when they merged with CCB, they did not,” said Wetkas.
According to him, the EFCC had interrogated the Senate President on the charges that were filed against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Usoro, asked Wetkas if the defendant was investigated on the American express issue but Michael said he was interrogated by members of a larger team.
Wetkas also said there were some companies Saraki had interest in locally and internationally.
However, Usoro asked Wetkas to identify team members who took part in the investigation in which Usman Imam and Musa Sunday were mentioned.
When Usoro asked Wetkas about transactions on funds transfer, Wetkas said that there are specified people who can talk about those bank related issues.
“Every transaction in the bank is specialised and that is why the head of the head of international funds transfer for Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) is listed as a witness in this case, Mr Amazu Nwachukwu.
“In the course of the investigation, what is clear to us is what we used. There are some more in the statement of account which was a clear narration of the transfer between American express.”
Wetkas added that the investigation is based more on the statement of accounts and there was nothing like American express service card in the document.
However, this is not the only issue that Saraki was not investigated on.
Agabi asked Wetkas if he interviewed any of the petitioners who called on the EFCC to investigate the state universal board and the witness said it was true but his team didn’t handle that investigation.
Recall that on Tuesday, April 19, Wetkas denied knowledge of the content of a petition marked as exhibit 11 against Saraki.
The petition in question was filed by Kwara Freedom Network alleging corruption against Saraki.
Saraki’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi, asked for one week adjournment but the judge adjourned the matter to April 27 instead
