Man City Closing In on Man Utd Target

 Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City believe they have wrapped up a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder İlkay Gündoğan for £30 million, according to theSun.
It was only last summer that rivals Manchester United were strongly linked with the German international.  At one point it seemed very likely the midfield ace was heading to Old Trafford after the Premier League side’s sponsors BWINdropped the hint on Twitter.
However, Gündoğan has remained with Borussia Dortmund since.
The Sun are now claiming that Manchester City have been in discussion with the player for ‘weeks’ and that a deal has finally been agreed between the two clubs.
They also report that Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain and incoming manager Pep Guardiola have already met İlkay Gündoğan.
Manchester City have strongly been linked with a move for Juventus star Paul Pogba this summer so the former Barcelona manager appears keen to strengthen the middle of the park at the Etihad.
Should the Citizens land Gündoğan, the 25-year-old is an excellent passer of the ball, likes to bring the ball forward and attempt long-range shots.  Although he doesn’t get involved with too many goals, he builds up the attacks in a similar vein to Luka Modrić’s role at Tottenham Hotspur a few years ago.
